| Arts & Crafts began in England in the late 1800s as a rebellion against industrialization. Spare, clean lines and sturdy form were considered a relief from the excess and artifice of the Victorian era. The movement took hold in the United States, spreading from East Aurora, New York, to Pasadena, California, inspiring architects and designers through the 1930s. Over the past two decades this movement has experienced a resurgence in popularity which encompasses a wide variety of expressions, from houses to furnishings, pottery and lighting. |
